Upsala Presbyterian Church has a heart for God and a gift for hospitality.
If you are bowed down by the weight of worldly troubles, this is a place of rest. If you are seeking a genuine encounter with the Living God, this is a place to be found by him. If you are looking for a loving community in your life's journey, here is a place where you will find welcome and love.
You don't need to get your act together first before you come. We are all imperfect people in need of God's grace. You will fit right in. Welcome home to Upsala Presbyterian Church.
To be a faithful community of faith, rooted in Reformed theology, that actively serves Christ in the world through acts of love, hope, and witness, working to build a just and compassionate society by proclaiming the Gospel to all people.
Presbyterians belong to widening circles of theological identity and relationship: Reformed, Protestant, and Christian. Presbyterian is a way of being Reformed, which is one way of being Protestant, which is itself a way of being Christian.
Core Presbyterian beliefs trace their roots back to the principles stated by the 16th-century reformer John Calvin. Among these are the sovereignty of God, the authority of Scripture, justification by grace through faith, and the priesthood of all believers. The sovereignty of God means that God is ultimately in charge and the whole universe in under his power and authority. The authority of scripture means that scripture is of higher authority than any merely human thoughts or opinions. Our knowledge of God and God’s purpose for humanity comes from the Bible, particularly what is revealed in the New Testament through the life of Jesus Christ. Justification by grace through faith means we cannot work our way into heaven by being good. Our salvation is a free gift from God that we can only receive - never deserve. The priesthood of all believers means that ministry is everyone's job. Not all are called to be preachers or teachers, but all are called to engage in love and share the good news of salvation. This priesthood of all believers is also reflected in how the Presbyterian church is governed at all levels by a combination of clergy and laity, men and women alike. We serve not out of a sense of guilt but out of a sense of joy and thanksgiving for all that God has done for us.
At Upsala Presbyterian Church, we believe the church is not a sanctuary for saints but rather a hospital for sinners. All of us are sinners striving with Christ's help to do better. Therefore, we welcome all who come, for we are all imperfect and in need of God's grace.
We celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month, and all who sincerely seek Jesus Christ are welcome at his table.
